WALK WITH YOUR COUNSELLOR

WHAT’S WALKING WITH YOUR COUNSELLOR ALL ABOUT?

Walking with your Counsellor (WwyC) is an outdoor therapy programme that allows clients who would prefer to walk and receive counselling and at the same time enjoy a pleasant walk at the client’s own pace. Comfortable enough for the client to be able to talk.

WALKING with your Counsellor is not a new concept or idea but one that is seldom thought of and used by counsellors. GET A GRIP CnC is a company that always looks for new ways and ideas to work with different groups of people that may benefit from different techniques or methods of counselling. The idea of WALKING with your COUNSELLOR came about to cater to the needs of those who would benefit from helping them to reframe their thoughts and enjoy the therapeutic sense of walking in a park/forest.

Different people have differing needs and sometimes clients may feel claustrophobic about being in a room, enclosed and find it difficult to express themselves. In comparison to being free and with the counsellor walking side by side rather than sitting down and looking at you, waiting for a response.

THE COUNSELLOR’S ROOM IS THE PARK

The counsellor’s room is the park itself where your mood light is your natural lighting by sun and the shades of the trees. The sounds of and sights are your stimulants, or it could also be some triggers which the counsellor hopes to work with you.

PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY

Private and confidentiality is always taken into account and well noted as the walk is just between the counsellor and client/s. A comfortable distance of about an arm’s length walking side by side.

The counsellor would sometimes pause conversation if other passers by are too close and may over hear the conversation.

The counsellor and client would choose a time when its less crowded.

Type of Walking

The walk that we do almost every other day varies from person to person. Some of us would prefer walking etc … mention about slow walk or casual etc[MMN3] The counsellor would walk according to the comfortable pace of the client. The pace is comfortable enough for the client to talk, reflect and absorb their thoughts.
